My name is Cherish Higgs, and I am 19 years old. I was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, but I live in Oak Grove, Kentucky. I live with my mother Angela, my dog Dino, and I have an older brother named Calvin, who now lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. The best I can say about myself is I am hard working, intelligent, a leader, friendly, funny, driven, reliable and a responsible young woman. I am creative and I enjoy art, drawing, photography, painting, writing, listening to music, reading, researching and design. I look at them as fun hobbies, but also as skills that I can use to better myself. I am currently a Sophomore attending Tennessee State University and majoring in Business Administration. Business to me is another outlet for me to express a part of myself that wants to create innovative ideas to change things in my community and hopefully the world.
My service member is my mother, Angela Richards. My Mother was a Specialist E-4 in the U.S. Army and she was an Automated Logistics Specialist. During Desert Shield/Desert Storm, my Mother was deployed with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and became a combat veteran. My mother is everything to me. Watching her navigate life as a single mother, disabled veteran, while raising two children, going to school and working has been such an inspiration. She is the one who taught me all the morals, values and lessons that have guided me through life thus far. Her day to day drive to succeed and be the best version of herself has not only impacted me, but the people around her. My mom is always willing to lend a helping hand because her heart is selfless and full of compassion. She is driven, has self-determination and finds ways to persevere through any obstacle. Over the years I have realized she was once a soldier in the army, but a soldier in life as well.
The scholarship from Folds of Honors has greatly impacted me and my education by allowing me to be less stressed about how I am going to pay for college. Thanks to my scholarship from Folds of Honor, I can use all my energy towards my course work. I can now focus on my studies, my goals towards achieving a 4.0 grade point average, graduating debt free and bettering myself everyday through my education. My plans after college are to open many businesses. One being a tea company where we produce and sell our own teas that are healthy. My other business is an art studio because my love for creating and art has propelled me to want to make it a career. I have other ideas to make a difference in my community by starting a scholarship of my own so I can give back to students like myself.

6th Annual Wingman Open:
The 6th Annual Folds of Honor Minnesota Wingman Open was a huge success! The greatest Patriots from the state gathered in honor of the military families Folds of Honor serves. The opening ceremony set the tone for an emotional day that included the Color Guard, National Anthem sung by a National Guard member and the Patriot Parachute team presenting a folded flag to a local MN veteran. Golfers enjoyed the day with numerous on course activities and surprises. The day ended with a dinner gathering golfers and guests while listening to Major Ed Pulido as well as former Folds of Honor scholarship recipient, Hannah Davis, tell their stories of loss, faith and hope. Hosted at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska MN for the 6th year, the MN Chapter was able to fundraise through sponsorships, foursomes, auctions and donations for a total of $500,000 raised for the military families we serve!
Jake Owen Benefit Concert:
Country super star Jake Owen along with over 300 Folds of Honor supporters graced the shores of Lake Minnetonka just outside of Minneapolis at the end of August for a concert benefitting Folds of Honor Minnesota. It was a magical evening complete with parachuters landing at dusk, boats lining the lake, outstanding performances by warm-up bands and Jake Owen complete with a grand finale firework display to end the night. It was humbling to witness the generosity of so many who support the mission of Folds of Honor as they helped us raise nearly $500,000 for our military families.

Salute to Service & Widgi Creek Golf Club
Scott Loring, former President and General Chairman of the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California organized the 2019 Salute to Service event at Widgi Creek Golf Club. Scott, a military veteran, alongside his "band of brothers", affectionally known as "The Hackers" have collectively been recognized as Patriot Golf Day Top 100 Performers for Folds of Honor three years running. “To stand side by side with Folds of Honor and their mission to change lives, is something we’re so proud of here at Widgi Creek,” Scott said.
The Hackers approached the 2019 Salute to Service with a renewed emphasis to break all previous charitable records at Widgi Creek. A "call to arms" was laid out by Scott to those far and wide within the group and the turnout was fantastic. The group surpassed previous contributions raising nearly $15,000! Scott stated during his emotional speech at the closing ceremonies, "I'm just so proud of everyone, and I can't thank you enough for making such a difference for the families of those who have lost loved ones protecting the freedoms of our country."
And we can't thank Scott and The Hackers enough for all they have done and continue to do to rekindle the flame of those families who have sacrificed so much for all of us. The less than 1% was proudly and boldly represented in Bend, Oregon. We salute YOU for your efforts!
