Folds of Honor Foundation

My name is EmmaMae Johnson and I am incredibly honored to have been selected as one of this year’s Folds of Honor Scholarship recipients. My service member is my father, Mike Johnson. He served on active duty for eleven years as an Infantry Officer, then as a Special Forces Officer. Then he continued his service in the National Guard as a Special Forces Officer retiring in 2008. He deployed all over the world, including a one-year deployment for Operation Enduring Freedom.

My dad is my greatest role model and the definition of humility. His qualities of bravery and sacrifice are more admirable than he will ever know, I have looked up to him tremendously for my entire life. He has taught me that we should always strive to put the needs of others before our own, and that a strong faith in God is the most important quality to possess.

My dad’s life of service has inspired me to live a life for the good of others by becoming a pediatric nurse. I am currently enrolled in the nursing program at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. I will have a BSN when I graduate in 2023, and Folds of Honor has helped make it possible for me to attend one of the best nursing schools on the West coast. After college, I plan to work for a children’s hospital in the greater Spokane area.
