THE 7TH FOLD
*The seventh fold is a tribute to our armed forces, for it is through the armed forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

This is where you will stay connected with all things Folds of Honor, such as impactful partnerships, upcoming events, store promotions and most importantly, the stories of the families you stand with.

MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH

The month of May is Military Appreciation Month. Join us as we honor and recognize the less than 1% who have answered the call to serve and defend this great nation.

Honor our service members by providing educational support for their families, who have also sacrificed greatly for our freedoms.

FAMILIES OF FOLDS
Tonita Gonzalez met her husband, Sergeant (SGT) Christopher Gonzalez, on the Navajo reservation near Winslow, Arizona where they both were born and raised. They grew up poor and had to attend a tribal boarding school away from their families for much of their childhood. Christopher wanted more for himself, his wife, and their future; so, upon graduation from high school he joined the Army to take his family beyond the struggles of reservation life.

Tonita considers that decision to be “the best gift” Christopher ever gave her and their family. Tonita has always cherished their time as a military family and fondly remembers watching Christopher’s growth from a young Army private to a sergeant and leader among men. Heartbreakingly, Christopher’s life was cut tragically short on May 14, 2007 in Iraq when SGT Gonzalez gave his life for our country when his squad was ambushed during patrol and he was mortally wounded in the ensuing fight.

For Tonita, life will never be the same, but she has found the strength to persevere through her loss and carry on the legacy of her heroic husband. This May, Tonita will be graduating from college with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Law from the University of Arizona. She intends on using her degree to return to the Navajo Reservation and help the disadvantaged community.

As a widowed mother,Tonita couldn’t be more grateful for the support of Folds of Honor. She says the scholarship “helps her pay tuition without having to use the money that should be used for mortgage and utilities.” We are extremely grateful for SGT Gonzalez’s sacrifice for our freedoms and couldn’t be more proud to support Tonita as she carries on his legacy.

CHAPTER HIGHLIGHT
North Texas Chapter

Established in 2005, the Willow Bend Hunt Club is a philanthropic initiative serving many facets of wildlife and habitat conservation, support of military heroes and their families and outdoor youth experiential education.

Annually, the WBHC holds several key fundraising events, the largest of which is their Beast Feast, a culinary safari where wild game is prepared by an executive chef and served.

For years the WBHC has partnered with the Folds of Honor North Texas Chapter and the Beast Feast has directly supported our scholarship fund. Last year, this event raised $100,000 and is expected to raise approximately $80,000 this year.

We are beyond grateful for this partnership and unique experience benefitting our military heroes and their families.

PATRIOT GOLF DAY

The Tournament, a biennial Patriot Golf Day event, was hosted by Associated Builders and Contractors on May 5 - 6, 2019 at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD. This event was also held in 2017.
